Update:
February 2008.
We
are delighted to be able to report that the work
in St Cattwg's is at an end - we want to say a
very big thank you to the Heritage Lottery
Fund for their grant of £37,400, to
the Vale of Glamorgan Welsh Church Act for a grant
of £3,000, the Churches and Pastoral
Committee for a grant of £1,000 and
to the Council for the Care of Churches for a grant
of £4,000. Also our grateful
thanks to the congregation and people of Llanmaes
together with all their friends and relations, without
whose tireless fund raising and generous donations over
the past years we could not have completed this
work.
Thanks
to everyone the East Window, has now been completely
repaired with new carved mullions and jambs.
The
Tower has at last been made safe and the rusted joists
have been replaced. Unfortunately,
the bells will still not be usable as
unforeseen problems meant that there was not enough
money to complete that part of the work. The Tower
has, however, been strengthened in such a
way as to enable the future replacement of the bell frame
and eventual ringing of the bells without even more
structural work taking place. Hopefully
a new bell frame will be installed and the bells overhauled in a
future phase
of restoration.
